A Boston University '13 student majoring in Biological Sciences gives a grade of A- to Local Atmosphere:
Local Atmosphere- "Medium city with plenty of attractions right outside Boston University by taking the T. Very accessible to Newbury Street, MFA, and downtown Boston."

A Boston University '13 student majoring in Biological Sciences gives a grade of A to Inside Scoop:
Academic Programs- "It is easy to switch majors anytime of the year and you could take any classes you want as long as it's not over 18 credits. That is why people take advantage of PDP classes at the FITREC."

A Boston University '11 student majoring in Arts gives a grade of B- to Guys & Girls:
Rich Kids- "A lot of rich students make for materialistic, good looking, not so academically focused girls and guys. Figures, for a school as expensive as BU. Still its diverse. You can find people who don't suit the majority, of course."

A Boston University '11 student majoring in Arts gives a grade of B- to Overall Experience:
Love/Hate- "There are pros and cons about a place like BU. Open campus makes for independent kids and less unity/school pride. No football team also makes for poor school pride. Good thing about the school is that you're always meeting new people. I wouldn't choose my school again because it is ridiculously expensive"

A Boston University '12 student majoring in Arts gives a grade of B+ to Greek Life:
GREEK LIFE IS IMPROVING!- "During the last 4 years, Greek life at BU has drastically got better. Although BU isn't a stereotypically "Greek School," the Greek community has become bigger and stronger.

Sororities at BU are great to get involved in, and have became more competitive. Rush for sororities have been so over-capacity that they are even bringing on a new sorority this year. Each sorority has it's own characteristics, and everyone I know that joined loves their sorority. Although being in a sorority can be pretty costly, it's a great way to make friends and get involved on campus. There is no sorority housing, but a lot of girls often end up living together. The better known sororities are DG, ADPi, GPHIB and APHI, but the ranks are always changing among the 9 of them. Sororities rush in the spring, and GPA does count somewhat.

Fraternities at BU are decent. They have off-campus housing, and often host parties that freshman, sophomores, and greeks attend. Some fraternity guys come off as tools, but most of them are decent guys who get together to hang out and party together. The most popular ones are Pike, Kappa Sigma, Sigma Chi and Chi Phi, however the other ones are great too! Fraternities rush Fall and Spring.

Best Of

  1. The size of BU. The sheer size of the University allows for a huge selection of courses, from French Regional Wines to Nietzsche to Stalking the Wild Mind.
  2. The professors.
  3. Domino's Pizza takes BU Convenience Points.
  4. Boston is a great college town, and the locals are highly entertaining; especially during Red Sox season.
  5. There are plenty of undergraduate research opportunities (a rarity at most American colleges) for any self-motivated individual.
  6. No Greek life.
  7. The food, both off campus and on, is better than most other colleges.
  8. West Campus cultivates that semi-campus feel.
  9. The way BU beach looks at night, and the way it is reminiscent of fake scenery, which, one could argue, it is. It is the best grass on campus.
  10. The intellectual atmosphere. This is the best environment for learning. If you are looking for more alternative methods of teaching, however, this is probably not the best thing for you.

Worst Of

  1. The conservative administration is an ever-present source of distress for students.
  2. The size of the University makes it difficult to get to know your professors. They will not come to you. You have to put in the effort.
  3. BU, like any large university, has an impenetrable bureaucracy that becomes annoyingly problematic for individual students with individual issues.
  4. The security on campus is reminiscent of your seventh grade bus driver if she were to suddenly develop a thick Boston accent. Don't swipe your card more than once in the wrong direction, or you are liable to get shut out.
  5. The blatant apathy of much of the student body
  6. Everything is overpriced, from the housing, to the coffee, to the nightlife.
  7. No smoking on campus . . . anywhere
  8. We start earlier, end later, and have the least vacation time of all of the universities in the area. Also, spring break is usually one or two weeks later than the majority of colleges in the US.
  9. Boston closes down at 2 a.m., with lingering party-goers until about 4 a.m. After that, you have to find your own party space.
  10. Freshman classes at BU. Most of the quality professors never teach them, and they are usually filled beyond the maximum and held in a large auditorium.
